Monrovia, Liberia – 11-13 November 2024
HeDPAC’s Community Health Advisor Temesgen Ayehu joined Liberia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and key partners in a pivotal three-day national consultation workshop aimed at reviewing and reorienting the National Community Health Program (NCHP). The workshop marked an important milestone in Liberia’s efforts to address pressing public health challenges and ensure the sustainability of its community health initiatives.
The discussions focused on reshaping the NCHP to better tackle critical health issues such as high maternal and infant mortality rates, teenage pregnancy, and the sustainability of the program. The workshop built on the findings of the recent MOH/HeDPAC review of the NCHP, presented by Dr. Nuntia Gbanlon from the Ministry of Health.
A Call for Reorientation
Honorable Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto underscored the importance of reorienting the NCHP as a cornerstone for achieving the nation’s broader health objectives. She highlighted the critical role the program plays in improving the health and well-being of women, girls, and children, while emphasizing the need for sustainable and inclusive approaches.
“This reorientation will not only address immediate health challenges but also ensure that Liberia’s community health system remains resilient and capable of adapting to future needs,” said Dr. Kpoto.
HeDPAC’s Commitment to Partnership
HeDPAC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government of Liberia in advancing the NCHP. Temesgen Ayehu, representing HeDPAC, highlighted the organization’s dedication to fostering sustainable health solutions that are locally tailored and nationally led.
“We are proud to partner with the Government of Liberia in this critical initiative. By prioritizing maternal and child health, as well as addressing teenage pregnancy, this program has the potential to create lasting, meaningful change in communities across the country,” said Temesgen.
Looking Ahead
The reorientation of the NCHP marks a significant step in Liberia’s journey toward achieving Universal Health Coverage. With a renewed focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and community-centered solutions, Liberia is well-positioned to strengthen its health systems and improve outcomes for its most vulnerable populations.
The collaboration between HeDPAC, the Ministry of Health, and key partners exemplifies the power of partnership in tackling complex health challenges. Moving forward, the outcomes of the consultation workshop will serve as a foundation for implementing effective policies and strategies that promote better health for all Liberians.
